Work-Life Balance - With Jessie Robinson

How do you balance work and life?

I work full time as a nurse and part time as a photographer, so my work/life balance may be different from most. As an extrovert and lover of people and quality relationships, I really prioritize time with "my people." I try not to pack my work schedule so full that I have a hard time seeing the people I love. Praying before work is also always very helpful. Reminding myself why I'm there and what God has called me to in that moment.

How do you make time for Sabbath/rest?

I sabbath and try to rest with my family every sunday. They are some of the people I can truly rest and be my fully authentic self with. I struggle with rest throughout the week as an extrovert. I like to pack my schedule to see people and energize myself. As I continue to learn and grow, I've said no to more things to leave more margin in my life for rest and helping others.

What would you suggest to a busy business owner looking for a break but just can’t with so many things to do?

Delegating or asking for help where possible is such a lost art. The American way is to pull yourself up and do it yourself if you're able. Sometimes, people are looked down upon if they're not able to complete tasks themselves. I confess to still having trouble asking for help, but as a believer, I am called to live in community and living in community means doing life, loving your friends and asking for help when needed.
