A Note to the Gap Year Kids

A note to the "Gap Year" kids.

I'm over here going on my second "gap year" even though I still feel so busy and sometimes overwhelmed!

According to the dictionary a gap year is: a period, typically an academic year, taken by a student as a break between secondary school and higher education.

In other words, (& lets get real here) in this society a gap year is said to be a year in between high school and college for those who don't know what they want to pursue, who want to work a year for some extra money for college, and the list goes on. NONE of which are bad things but still some people look down on it. Honestly *insert sign here*.

My first gap year I spent interning for 9 months with a Christian theatre company and it was great. Then I took 2 months after that and did a social media internship because I wanted to learn more about the field to see if I liked it enough to pursue it and make it as my source of income, so I could still be involved in theatre even if it didn't pay me.

Right now I'm not in college. I'm taking some time to evaluate my life and where I would like to be in the next few years. Those "What do you want in 5 years?" questions freak me out
Maybe I'll go to college next year, maybe I won't. I'm definitely not against college but I'm not against the take a year to chill route either.

So to all those coming out of high school, to those feeling a little lost, or if you're currently taking a gap year (and watching your best friends post their first day of college and their dorm room pictures) or wanting to.. DO IT! Do the thing, whatever thing it is.

DON'T sit on the couch and do nothing for a whole year. Don't think you're going to figure out your life doing nothing.

What I am saying: Keep moving. God can't move a stationary car that is unwilling to at least keep moving forward. Trust that He will direct!
- Watch some Netflix, but then read a book about something you are interested in or want to learn more about.
- Do a short term internship.
- Hobbies can easily become a full time career and there are SO many different opportunity in this world that has a program (that isn't college necessary) that could fit you really really well. It's amazing when a passion can collide with a career.
- Journal.
- Write the book you never had time to before.
- Go to the gym a few times a week.

You can rest, that is okay. Just because you're taking a gap year doesn't mean you are directionless, unworthy, lazy or whatever other label people throw on it. Stop being disappointed in yourself for doing what you need to do, gosh our generation is so motivated by pressure!

Just because you're not going to college right away doesn't mean you never will.
Just because you're taking a gap year doesn't mean you're not doing anything, cause that's what people think when they here it.
Forget about them for just a second.

I haven't done anything, especially this month, according to the world because I don't have a full-time job or head to college next week. EVEN THOUGH this past month, I launched my brand, built a website and blog, and am about to start accepting clients. I am still so busy but with different things than the ordinary and there is nothing wrong with that.

What do you want to really do? You don't have to do what everyone else is doing, capeesh? Capeesh!

You do you.
