This past week my family and I went on an overnight trip to Pittsburg and had so much fun! Make sure to keep scrolling for a list of things that we enjoyed, tips, and lots of great pics!
City Strolling
First things first, we checked into the Marriott hotel and got all settled in! The hotel was clean, and service was fantastic. If you want to be close to the stadium and downtown, this is the place to stay. Marriott is especially customer service related because they offered a free shuttling service, so take them up on this offer so you don’t have to navigate the city traffic and parallel parking :)
After we got dropped off in Market Square, we got to really explore! Since it’s December it was definitely chilly but we still had a great time, and it really put me in the Christmas Spirit!
I mean look at that tree!!
PPG Ice Rink
Another fun thing we did after walking through the streets, my brother went ice skating! It was sort of a bucket list thing for him :) Make sure to check out the very well maintained PPG Ice Rink in the middle of the city! If you’re planning ahead, it’s $8 dollars a person for how ever long you want so you can do it multiple times that day!
The Yard
After all that walking around and skating it was time to grab a bite to eat. Guys, there are so many options but I think we found the jackpot! The Yard has gourmet grilled cheese sandwiches, and they had GLUTEN FREE BREAD, SEPARATE FRYERS, AND EVEN SOUP. It was AMAZING! All I can say is, GO and you won’t be disappointed.
Philadelphia Cheesesteak Grilled cheese sandwich, with white cheddar sauce, tomato soup and chips!
Milkshakes
I got a mint chocolate chip shake, my favorite!
Then, as if we weren’t full enough we walked to the Milkshake Factory. It’s never too cold for ice-cream and their shakes were amazing.
Pittsburg Penguins!
We won! 3-0!
The only sport I like has probably got to be ice hockey, mainly because my brother played for a few years so we spent a few days a week at the rink and so we grew to love the thrill of the sport!
If you’re a hockey game fanatic, we walked right across the street from our hotel to the stadium, it was perfect.
One thing we didn’t have time for was the Duquesne Incline which is for sure on the list next time we go! Did I mention the best part? My dad planned the entire thing by himself, what a guy :) Overall it was the perfect family Christmas gift, spending time together, seeing new things, and enjoying great food.
Where do you want to travel to next?
